Couples & Families
Counselling can help you as a couple as well as a family by:
Empowering you with effective non-judgmental, non-reactive communications skills
Helping you talk about goals and how to balance each others’ desires
Ensuring that all voices and opinions can be heard within a safe environment
Strengthening and enhancing your and/or your family’s relationships and bonds
Using the Gottman Method Couples Therapy to help you and your partner manage conflict and deepen your friendship and intimacy
Employing art therapy to help couples and families communicate with each other when words can be too difficult
I have over 22 years of experience working with adults, couples and families. I am currently working on completing the Level 1 & 2 for the Gottman Method Therapy. I have training in Mindfulness, Meditation and Relaxation. I can also provide skills and support to the individual members as well as the family unit, allowing them all the opportunity to develop a strong and healthy relationship.
I believe in a family systems approach which means that when one thing or person changes in the family, it affects the whole unit. I also believe that the strength of the family lies with the parents/caregivers. Strengthening the bonds of the parent/caregiver-child relationship and building a strong attachment and connection is vital to the well-being of the family system.
The strong connection between parent/caregiver and child is essential to the parent’s ability to understand and support their child. We would achieve this through a combination of parent/caregiver coaching, family counselling, and, in some cases, individual counselling as well.
